Guys it’s Chanukah!! Yes, even in Istanbul, Turkey, it’s Chanukah, the Festival of Lights! It is also my first attempt at making donuts! Really a time for celebration. For all of the gentiles out there, it is traditional to eat lots of fried foods on Chanukah because of the significance of the oil. Oil was used to light the menorah (candelabra) in the Holy Temple, and those are the lights that we commemorate for eight nights during Chanukah. At home my mom always buys the most delicious jelly donuts for Chanukah, but I even checked the Dunkin Donuts on campus and they did not sell jelly donuts. Aha, a challenge!

They were really delicious and not so difficult to make, mostly just time consuming kneading the dough and letting it rise. The frying part was actually much easier than I had anticipated. Stuff ’em with some delicious raspberry jam and bon appetit!

Happy Chanukah!! חנוכה שמח!!
